John Bryden returns to St Mary's to give two piano recitals on the superb Cathedral Steinway. Coffee will be available. Join us for a morning of beautiful music in the stunning setting and acoustic of St Mary's Cathedral.

Programme:

  • Prelude in B flat minor from Book 1 of The 48’ - J. S. Bach
  • Suite Op.14 (1916) - Bartok
  • Drei Klavierstuecke D946 (1828) - Schubert

Biography:

John Bryden was born in Edinburgh . Mary Moore was his piano teacher. Aged 16 he played double bass in the National Youth Orchestra and gained an Exhibition to Emmanuel College Cambridge. He also studied with Peter Katin, Guido Agosti and in Master Classes with Claudio Arrau during the Beethoven Bi-Centenary in Bonn. John has also greatly valued advice from Sir Clifford Curzon and Hans Keller.

He has given concerts from California to Kathmandu via Wigmore Hall. At Dartington he played for Master Classes given by Jacqueline du Pre. On many visits with ACE Cultural Tours John has played in houses or museums associated with Handel, Haydn, Beethoven, Chopin, Mendelssohn, Liszt , Robert and Clara

Schumann, Brahms, Grieg, Smetana, Dvorak and Elgar. John enjoys passing on what he has learnt to students aged 2-nearly 100.
