Schools Choral Director
Canadian-born choral conductor, pianist, and singer, Katrina MacKinnon is the newly appointed Schools Choral Director of St. Mary’s Cathedral. She will be providing curriculum-based singing lessons to state school primary classes across Edinburgh, while also forming after-school choirs providing various performance opportunities throughout the year. Prior to moving to Budapest, Katrina directed choirs and ran a private piano studio in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. She was the artistic director and founder of the Melodia singers, as well as the director of the St. Paul’s Co-Cathedral Children’s Choir. She also worked with the internationally recognized Saskatoon Children’s Choir. As a singer, some of Katrina’s choral highlights are featuring as a soloist for a Hungarian performance of excerpts from Elijah, singing with the professional chamber choir Voces Boreales in Montreal, and touring with the National Youth Choir of Canada. Her public piano performances include a candlelight concert with cellist Katherine Pernal in Grande Prairie, AB; Prairie Saxophone Initiative’s summer tour of 2022; and a duo piano concert with Terri-Lynn Mitchell at the Bassment.
