About

Responding to the Sacred+: Liturgy and Change

A panel discussion exploring the future of Christian liturgy will take place at St Mary’s Cathedral, Edinburgh.

This thought-provoking event invites attendees to engage with pressing questions about the purpose, evolution, and meaning of liturgical practice in today’s world. Join us in considering the following questions: What is the liturgy for? What’s our theology of liturgy? What theology of Christian liturgy could help us with the thorny issue of making changes – something many people want whilst others are troubled by the idea? How might liturgies be reimagined i.e. look, sound, feel differently, to “do the job” of liturgy well or better in 2025? Who gets to decide? Are we OK with that? What’s the alternative?

The panellists are:

  • The Rev Dr Mary Kells, Rector of St Martin and St Paul, Canterbury, England, and liturgical lead for Women in the Church

  • Dr Bridget…
