Agustín Barrios Mangoré --- Julia Florida
One of Agustín Barrios Mangoré’s most beloved works, Julia Florida is a tender barcarolle composed in 1938. Written for Julia Martínez, a young student of Barrios, the piece reflects a deep sense of longing and melancholy. The flowing rhythm mimics the gentle rocking of a boat, while the expressive melody conveys nostalgia and introspection. Rich in harmonic colour and lyrical phrasing, Julia Florida showcases Barrios’ Romantic style, influenced by Chopin and Debussy. This hauntingly beautiful work remains a favourite among guitarists, capturing both the poetic sensitivity and technical mastery of Barrios’ compositions.
