Plants are our Teachers workshops

These workshops explore a range of approaches to art-making and materials, drawing inspiration and colour from plants, rock and soil. The programme is suitable for all abilities, and takes place in the Cathedral's Chapter House and across the grounds.

Each Plants are our Teachers workshop has a different focus, exploring a range of approaches to art making and materials drawing inspiration (and colour!) from plants, rock and soil.  They can be undertaken alone or as a series.

These workshops are suitable for all levels of experience and ability, from beginners to advanced.

Workshop Details

The Sap is Rising March 2nd and 3rd Making and using earth pigments and green plant inks to celebrate the coming of spring - with artist Sarah Gittins Dynamic Plant Drawing May 4th and 5th Making and using charcoal and oak gall ink to respond to the dynamic energy of plants through drawing - with artists Annie Lord and Sarah Gittins A Morning with Moss and Lichen June 29th Explore the world of mosses and lichens in the wild and under the lens in an introductory workshop - with ecologist and nature guide Ian Edwards A Forest in an Inch of Moss July 6th and 7th Making drawings and papercuts by closely observing mosses - the coral reef of the forest - with artist Sarah Gittins A Book of Bramble and Blaeberry September 7th and 8th Celebrating the fruit and foliage of hedgerow and heath by making a book of drawings using berry inks - with artist Sarah Gittins Tree Seed Print November 2nd and 3rd Making linocut prints using the reduction cut method, inspired by the form and energy of tree seeds - with artist Sarah Gittins

Information and Prices

This workshop runs 10am-4:30pm and costs £120.

(Block booking all 5 workshops qualifies for a reduced fee of £100 per workshop.)

All materials are included in the fees.

A limited number of subsidised places are available on each course.
