Free lunchtime recitals every day from 2nd to 31st August, except Sundays and 16th. An opportunity to hear emerging and established artists performing in a wide variety of styles, genres, and instruments.  This long-running series is undoubtedly one of the hidden gems of the Fringe.

Organ | Max Carsley

  • ‘Allegro Maestoso’ from Organ Sonata Op. 28 - Edward Elgar (1857-1934)
  • Fantasia in A minor - William Byrd (c.1540-1623)
  • ‘Allein Gott in der Höh’ sei Ehr’ (BWV 662, 663 & 664) - J.S Bach (1685-1750)
  • ‘Scherzetto’ from Sonata in C minor, and ’Fanfare’ from ‘Four Extemporisations’ - Percy Whitlock (1903-1946)

Max Carsley is a former chorister at St Mary’s Episcopal Cathedral, Edinburgh and studied oboe, organ, voice and piano at St Mary’s Music School. Max was Director of Music at Morningside United Church and later ‘Music Scholar’ at St Mary’s and continues to deputise as a lay clerk and organist at the cathedral. Max was Principal Oboe of NYO, was awarded the ABRSM ‘Ehrlich Prize’ for singing and is an Associate of the Royal College of Organists. He is entering his third year of Bachelor studies in church music with Prof. Henry Fairs at the Universität der Künste Berlin. Max has performed at notable venues including Paderborn Cathedral, Berlin Cathedral, Ettal Abbey and Freising Cathedral.
