About

Evensong is a living tradition of Episcopal Church, going back hundreds of years.  This reflective service of words and music, sung today by the Holy Comforter Choir from Charlotte, North Carolina, is a way to worship God, to quietly pray together, and to close the day.

The Choir of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter is a volunteer ensemble of 40 adults and undergraduate Choral Scholars from Charlotte, NC. The choir sings weekly for Holy Eucharist during the program year (September-May), monthly for Choral Evensong, and for special liturgies throughout the year, including All Saints’ Day, Advent Lessons and Carols, Christmas Eve, and Holy Week. In recent years, the choir has presented Gabriel Faure’s

Requiem and J. S. Bach’s cantata 140, “Wachet auf! Ruft uns die Stimme” in liturgical context. In 2015, the choir sang a week-long residency of services at Bristol Cathedral, UK, followed by a 2019 tour of Italy, during which the choir sang for masses at St. Mark’s Basilica, Venice; the

Basilica of St. Francis, Assisi; and at the Basilica of St. Peter in Vatican City. The choir has sung regionally in the United States at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Columbia, SC and Duke University Chapel, Durham, NC.

The Choir is in Edinburgh for the weekend, and singing a lunchtime recital at St Giles Cathedral on Monday.  More information is available here.
