Soul Food

"Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink?" ... And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me."

Matthew 25:37-40

Since February 2023, St Mary's has hosted Soul Food in the Walpole Hall: a place where anyone over 60 can sit down for a hot meal, free of charge.

Soul Food was started nearby in Edinburgh in 2014, and has expanded across the city since then.  This is part of our core Christian calling of charity and fellowship with all.  We maintain the core Soul Food values:

  • Generous meals of high quality food

  • A safe space (no alcohol or drugs, no rude or threatening behaviour)

  • Everyone - volunteer or guest - treated as equals, with kindness and respect

  • A commitment to walk alongside anyone in need of support

  • Collaboration with other agencies and organisations engaging in homelessness and poverty

Soul Food happens every Tuesday, 12:30-2:30pm, at the Walpole Hall.
