About

About

Artist Natalie Taylor celebrates the hidden life beneath our feet, exploring our vital relationship with soil, the people who care for it, and the food production systems that rely on it. In the context of Of Voices/Pathways, Natalie presents Keepers of the Soil – literally, an embroidered cape depicting the soil/food web of which we are a part – a work originally made for the Pilgrimage for COP26, a walk from Dunbar to Glasgow in October 2021. Since that time, Keepers of the Soil has continued its metaphorical journey; expanding to become a larger body of work exploring the ecology of soil and our dependence upon it. For more information about Natalie Taylor and her work see here.

Times

Keepers of the Soil is open 10am-5pm Monday-Saturday, and 12-5pm on Sundays, between 4th and 27th August 2023, in the Chapter House of the Cathedral (closed for lunch 1-1:45pm).

A+E

A + E is a key partner organisations in our work to create a Cathedral which is fully engaged with the climate crisis, braiding the terms accident and emergency, art and ecology, art and education.  Curated by Jonathan Baxter, A+E asks: how might the Cathedral become an ecological commons for the city and how might that shape a social and ecological art practice?  To that end, we are working collaboratively with a wide range of partners including artists, peer-educators, environmentalists, and the Cathedral’s eco-congregation group.

Part of the A+E Summer Programme, Of Voices/Pathways.
