Provost’s Welcome

Wednesday 21st September, 2011

The Ascension (Thursday 5 May) celebrates and proclaims the Christ’s kingship.  “The head that once was crowned with thorns is crowned with glory now” we sing.  His kingship is one of love; his crown – one of thorns; his throne – a cross of wood; his courtiers – two thieves also condemned to death; his banquet – the bread and the wine of the upper room. Each day the Cathedral’s doors are open, offering a time to be still, a time for a prayer to be said, a candle to be lit.                                                                                                       Brigadier Nicholas Ridley: Nick, who loved the Cathedral, died on April 20, 2016.  His obituary from the Times (12 May) is reprinted in his honour and memory.
