June Update

Thursday 22nd May, 2014

1.        June 2014 will be especially special for our Chaplain Willie Shaw who marries Sarah this month.  We wish them both every happiness and blessing in their new life together.

2.        Work is currently taking place on the north side of the Cathedral: the path between the gardens and the Cathedral is being dug up and a new one laid in the same stone and material as the paths across the north lawns.  Kerb stones will delineate the Garden of Remembrance and the new grassed area / gardens to the west of the north door.  When that work is finished, a stone disabled access ramp will be built at the Cathedral’s west door.  I think the end is in sight ….

3. Officers from Police Scotland had to be on their toes on 18 May as hundred of members (past and present) of the Royal Military Police joined us for our Cathedral Eucharist, and then various roads were closed as they marched off, led by pipes and drums and their regimental colours held high.

4. The Cathedral Office refurbishment has been completed, pigeonholes restored to their rightful place, and all is good.  The pigeonhole for the Congregation is green, to make it instantly recognisable.

Many will remember with great affection John Chalmers, Minister of Palmerston Place Church for many years.  John’s year as Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland began in May: I have assured him of the Cathedral’s prayers and best wishes for him and Liz as he exercises a most important role in the life of the Kirk.
