The Cathedral's Outreach Committee initiates and co-ordinates various activities, reflecting our concern for other people locally and further afield. The Committee's work has two aspects - firstly an "informative" element, and secondly an "action" element through providing opportunities to give practical assistance of various sorts. Core activities include: Christian AidWe participate in national and local events, linking into fund raising operations - such as the Forth Bridge Crossing and street collections - encouraging participation from all age groups in the Cathedral. Services for Homeless PeopleWe have links with the Salvation Army’s food and shelter project in Bread St, and are also involved in the 'Fresh Start' initiative which offers practical help to homeless people at the point of being housed. The One World StallThe stall, which operates each Sunday after the 10.30 Cathedral Eucharist, offers an opportunity to purchase fairly traded goods and to learn about the needs of the food producers in the world's poorer countries. ExhibitionsExhibitions featuring various social concerns are presented throughout the year on the exhibition boards in the north aisles of the Cathedral. This is only a snapshot of some of the Outreach Committee activities. If you require, more information, or can offer assistance with the events, please feel welcome to contact the Cathedral Office. |
